A whopping 51 Premier League footballers are today out of work after their contracts expired and they became free agents.
June 30 is the deadline for players whose contracts were due to run out at the close of the 2024-25 season, with most of their futures already sealed and delivered via club announcements. And now they are available on free transfers - offering bargain basement opportunities for clubs up and down the land.
Premier League clubs have released their retained and let-go lists, farewells have been exchanged and lockers emptied. Some stars will have their next move sorted, while others have decided to retire. But as soon as the clock strikes midnight and Tuesday rolls in, these out-of-contract players can sign up with a new club without a fee, courtesy of the Bosman rule.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kevin De Bruyne were the biggest names nearing the end of their contracts this year. Real Madrid shelled out £10m to Liverpool to snap up Alexander-Arnold just in time for the Club World Cup, a tournament which Manchester City legend De Bruyne opted out of, before agreeing to join Napoli. Here's the list in full, courtesy of the Mirror.
