Everton and Newcastle United are both set to lose their striker to a free transfer.

Calvert-Lewin has been tracked by Newcastle United in recent years. Last summer, the two clubs held talks over a PSR swindle that would have seen the striker move to Tyneside and Yankuba Minteh go in the opposite direction.

However, negotiations broke down. Minteh ended up joining Brighton & Hove Albion for £33million and Elliot Anderson moved to Nottingham Forest with Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos swapping the City Ground for St James’ Park as both clubs complied with PSR.

A year on and the Magpies have the opportunity to sign Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer after he confirmed he will be leaving Goodison Park when his contract expires this week.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin confirms Everton exit

The 28-year-old made 273 appearances for the Toffees - his last coming against Newcastle at St James’ Park on the final day of last season - and scored 71 goals, as well as representing England 11 times.

"To Everton Football Club and the Evertonians,” Calvert-Lewin wrote in a farewell message. “After nine remarkable years at this club, I've made the incredibly difficult decision, together with my family, to begin a new chapter in my career.

"This isn't something I chose lightly. Everton has been my home since I was 19 years old. It's the place that saw potential in me, challenged me to grow, and shaped me both as a footballer and as a man.

"Whether times were good or tough, your unwavering support never faltered. Celebrating goals at Goodison Park, feeling that roar, is an experience I'll carry with me forever.

"This choice to move on was not simply about me, it was a decision my family and I spent a long time considering together. We believe it's the right moment to seek a new challenge and continue growing, but that doesn't lessen the bond I'll always have with Everton.

"I'm deeply proud of what we've shared, fighting for this club when it mattered most, scoring big goals in crucial moments, wearing the shirt with commitment and pride. My hope is that I leave with your respect, knowing I always sought to uphold the values of this great club."

Newcastle United unlikely to make move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Newcastle are on the lookout for a striker or a versatile forward to support Alexander Isak with Callum Wilson set to become a free agent in the next 24 hours.

But despite showing an interest previously, NewcastleWorld understands Newcastle are not planning to move for Calvert-Lewin, whose injury record isn’t too dissimilar to Wilson’s.

Wilson has been in talks over an incentivised deal after injuries restricted him to just three starts last season. Neither the club or the player has yet announced if he is staying.
