Liverpool have agreed an “anti-embarrassment clause” in the deal to sell Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen.

Football Insider revealed on 20 June Quansah has agreed personal terms with Leverkusen ahead of a record-breaking move to Germany.

Erik ten Hag’s side will pay £34million for the England Under-21 international, eclipsing the club’s previous highest outlay of £27.3million to sign Karem Demirbay from Hoffenheim in 2019.

The deal is understood to include a buy-back clause for the Liverpool academy product.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider it’s “great” for Arne Slot’s side to have the option to bring Quansah back to Anfield for a fixed fee in the future.

The 22-year-old has made 58 appearances for Liverpool, including 25 outings in their title-winning campaign last season.

Liverpool have agreed ‘perfect’ Jarell Quansah deal

Borson insisted selling Quansah makes “perfect sense” depending on what the buy-back clause is.

He told Football Insider: “The deal makes sense, especially if you’ve de-risked it by having a buyback.

“The player is probably not going to get much game time next season. I guess it makes perfect sense depending on what the buyback is.

“It’s quite hard to exercise those buybacks. Manchester City have had a lot of buybacks over the years and haven’t really utilised many of them. They did it once or twice.

“I think convincing a player to re-sign only to then be traded on again is quite a difficult thing to do, but it gives you an option.

“There’s nothing like having an anti-embarrassment clause if he’s super successful and turns into a top player.

“It’s great to have the opportunity to be able to say, let’s bring him back for a fixed fee, but the key of course with that is, what is that fixed fee?”

Marc Guehi has ‘concerns’ over Liverpool move

In terms of a potential incoming, Football Insider revealed on 26 June Marc Guehi isn’t rushing to make a decision on a move away from Crystal Palace amid “concerns” over joining Liverpool.

The 24-year-old centre-back will enter the final 12 months of his contract at Selhurst Park this week.

However, the England international will weigh up the move carefully, with Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk likely to be ahead of him in the pecking order at Anfield.
