Report: Arsenal suddenly want to sign the 'next Alexander Isak' instead of Sesko or Gyokeres

Arsenal are seriously considering a summer move for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, according to German newspaper Bild.

The Gunners have reportedly placed the 22-year-old forward high on their list of potential striker options, alongside the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko.

There has been little progress in Arsenal’s efforts to sign either of their primary two targets, and this is reportedly one of the reasons why sporting director Andrea Berta is now considering Ekitike.

However, Arsenal are unwilling to pay a mega transfer fee in the region of €100m (£85m) for the Frenchman, who is under contract with Frankfurt until the summer of 2029.

According to Bild, Arsenal could face fierce competition from Premier League winners Liverpool in the race for Ekitike this summer, as the Reds are also watching his situation closely.

Arne Slot’s side could reportedly launch their pursuit as soon as Darwin Nunez’s sale to Napoli is completed, having already held talks with Ekitike’s representatives over a potential deal.

Ekitike, praised as ‘one of the best strikers out there’, joined Frankfurt from Paris Saint-Germain permanently last summer and enjoyed a career-best season in Germany.

The 23-year-old, who has been likened to Alexander Isak, scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions, with 23 of those goal contributions coming in the Bundesliga.

Arsenal’s summer business has gathered pace in recent days, with deals for Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Kepa now close to completion.

The Gunners are also advancing in their pursuit of Valencia defender Christian Mosquera, with talks underway for a deal worth in excess of €20m (£17m).
