Liverpool star Jarell Quansah is seemingly moving a step closer to completing a move away from Anfield. The Reds centre-back has emerged as a target for Bayer Leverkusen over the last few weeks.
The ECHO reported earlier this month that Liverpool and Leverkusen had agreed a £35million deal for Quansah to join the Bundesliga club this summer.
The centre-back made just 25 appearances for the Reds last term, including just 13 in the Premier League. Quansah is now expected to complete a move to Leverkusen this week, and appears to have moved even closer to an Anfield departure.
Sport Bild has reported on Monday morning that Quansah has arrived for his medical with Leverkusen. The German news outlet posted a photo of Quansah arriving in Leverkusen to complete the required medical checks before finalising his move to the 2023/24 Bundesliga champions.
Leverkusen will have a new manager at the helm next season with former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag replacing Xabi Alonso, who took charge of Real Madrid earlier this summer.
Quansah's medical is now taking place just two days after the Liverpool defender helped England win the Euro Under-21 Championships.
The centre-back played every minute of the competition to help the Young Lions win the tournament for the second time in a row, following their previous triumph in 2023.
Liverpool have already been in negotiations with Leverkusen for much of the summer transfer window. The Reds first completed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong earlier in the summer in a deal worth £29million, before turning their attention to the £116million swoop for Florian Wirtz a few weeks later.
Quansah's departure would likely see Liverpool move for a replacement centre-back before the transfer window closes.
Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi has emerged as a potential target for the Reds, but it remains to be seen if a deal will be agreed for the England international.
