Player of the Tournament Harvey Elliott Reflects On U21 England Glory

On Saturday, [Liverpool](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/)’s Harvey Elliott won the Euro U21 tournament with England and was named [player of the tournament](https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/2025/6/29/24458177/harvey-elliott-named-player-of-the-tournament-at-u21-euros-liverpool-fc-premier-league-transfer) as the Three Lions dispatched Germany 3-2, with the Reds’ attacker scoring the game’s first goal.

“It’s another incredible moment,” said Elliott, who ended the 2024-25 season as a Premier League champion with the Reds and now adds an international title to his resume. “There were big expectations, big pressure.

“But the way the lads handled it from start to finish of this tournament, no one deserves it more. It’s time to celebrate because it’s been very hard work, but it’s party time now and we’re going to make the most of it.”

Despite the star turn for England, what comes next for the Elliott isn’t certain. If he was a rising star not on Liverpool’s books, he seems precisely the sort of young homegrown talent one would expect the Reds to chase.

He _is_ on the Reds’ books, though, and despite looking very much like a name for the future under former manager Jürgen Klopp, Elliott never seemed to earn the confidence of new manager Arne Slot in the 2024-25 season.

On the evidence of last season’s title, Slot knows what he’s doing—as do Michael Edwards in Richard Hughes in the club’s upper management—but if Elliott can’t see a path to playing time and moves on it will raise eyebrows.

The boyhood Liverpool fan has been at the club since 2019, meaning Elliott counts as not just homegrown but club trained for registration purposes. Perhaps, then, his will simply end up a case of _almost_ and _not quite._

The level required of any player wanting to become a regular starter for a title-winning side with aspirations of defending their league title and adding European glory to the list next season is, after all, almost unimaginably high.

Elliott, though, clearly loves the club. Is clearly an exceptional young talent. Counts as club trained. Hopefully, then, just maybe, there’s still a route to him achieving his full potential as a player without leaving the Reds.
