Leeds are closing in on a deal to sign Wolfsburg defender Sebastiaan Bornauw.

Daniel Farke’s side have already announced the signatures of Jaka Bijol from Udinese and Lukas Nmecha, and look set to add to their defensive ranks again.

They need significant additions as they prepare for their first campaign back in the Premier League after a two-year absence.

The Elland Road outfit have wasted no time in bolstering their squad ahead of a brutal survival battle next season, with Bornauw set for his medical on Monday.

Sky Sports has reported on its live blog (30 June, 12:17) that the Whites are closing in on the signing of the Wolfsburg defender, in a deal worth around £5million.

It also states that Nmecha’s free transfer to the Yorkshire outfit is set to be made fully official once his deal, also at Wolfsburg, expires on Monday, 30 June.

Leeds have done brilliant business so far

The three signings so far are all quality additions.

The addition of Bijol is the highlight, as he is a player with plenty of experience at the elite level and a towering defender who can have an impact at both ends of the pitch.

Player Top-flight appearances Fee

Bijol 90 (Serie A) £15m

Bornauw 140 (Bundesliga) £5.1m

Nmecha 69 (Bundesliga) Free

Three Leeds signings’ top-flight experience.

Bornauw and Nmecha also have an abundance of top-flight experience in Germany and are in the prime of their careers at 26 years old.

Farke and Co still need more recruits, with another forward and a goalkeeper surely towards the top of the list.

A replacement for Illan Meslier is a must, with the likes of Djordje Petrovic and Nick Pope linked with the LS11 outfit.

In terms of a new attacker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been touted as a potential Leeds addition following his Everton exit, and Nikola Krstovic has also been heavily linked with the Whites.

It is a solid start to business for the newly-promoted side, but there is still much more work to be done if they are to have any chance of staying in the division.

However, given the pace and secrecy with which the 49ers have started the window, it will be an exciting summer for supporters.
