A total of 51 Premier League footballers will become free agents or secure free transfer moves in the next 24 hours as their current contracts draw to a close. The 30th of June is the deadline for players whose contracts were set to expire at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, with most of their futures already confirmed through club announcements.
Clubs have published their retained and released lists, farewells have been bid, and lockers have been emptied. Some footballers will already have their next move planned, while others will enter the free agent market.
As soon as the clock strikes midnight and Tuesday commences, these out-of-contract stars will be eligible to join a new club for free under the Bosman rule. However, there has been some last-minute activity, with Manchester United announcing on Friday that goalkeeper Tom Heaton had extended his contract, and it was also confirmed that Everton captain Seamus Coleman had signed a new deal.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kevin De Bruyne were the most notable names nearing the end of their contracts this year. Real Madrid ended up paying Liverpool £10m to sign Alexander-Arnold ahead of the Club World Cup, a tournament which Manchester City legend De Bruyne opted not to participate in before agreeing to sign for Napoli.
A couple of footballers have decided to retire once their contracts come to an end. United defender Jonny Evans has announced his retirement, as has Adam Lallana of Southampton, who we've included on this list, despite their relegation to the Championship alongside Ipswich and Leicester.
