Liverpool’s Tyler Morton is facing a crossroads in his career, with clubs across Europe circling as the young midfielder seeks clarity on his next move.
While the Anfield faithful are still buzzing from the exploits of Liverpool’s England U21 trio – Morton, Harvey Elliott, and Jarell Quansah – during their triumphant European Championship campaign, the question of regular first-team football looms large for each.
Quansah is already all but officially signed as a Bayer Leverkusen player.
Now Paul Joyce has reported that Braga, Ajax, West Ham United and Club Bruges are keen on the midfielder, although the Portuguese side are believed to be most interested.
Opportunities at Liverpool were scarce for Tyler Morton under Arne Slot, as the midfielder was restricted to just five senior outings – three in the EFL Cup and one each in the FA Cup and Champions League
His progress was further hampered by a shoulder injury picked up in December against Southampton, which required surgery in February and sidelined him for a significant portion of the campaign.
It would make a lot of sense for the 22-year-old to call it on his Anfield career this window.
Writing for the Times, Joyce reports:
“The Portuguese side Braga are ready to step up their interest in Tyler Morton as the Liverpool midfielder looks to resolve his long-term future after his success with England at the European Under-21 Championship.”
“Ajax, West Ham United and Club Bruges have also been following the 22-year-old, who is eager for regular first-team football.”
After previous loan spells in the Championship – at Blackburn Rovers in 2022/23 and Hull City in 2023/24 – Morton’s experience now points toward a likely permanent move elsewhere as he seeks a more prominent role.
Joyce adds that Ajax are also a very realistic destination due to former Liverpool assistant John Heitinga taking the reins.
The Dutchman already recruited ‘keeper Vitezslav Jaros on a season-long loan, and could push for a permanent deal for Morton:
“The interest from Ajax is also significant, with their new head coach, John Heitinga, having worked with Morton last season at Liverpool,” the Merseyside reporter adds.
It could easily happen that all three of Liverpool’s U21 Euro winners leave the club this summer, with Harvey Elliott also tipped to depart Anfield amid plenty of interest from the Premier League and abroad.
