"World-class" star ready to join Arsenal in £55.6m move, has now arrived in London - report

Arsenal are poised to confirm the signing of a new midfielder in the coming days.

The Gunners have made progress in the transfer market over the past week and are close to announcing three separate deals.

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, Chelsea goalkeeper David de Gea and Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard are due to join soon.

Noticias de Gipuzkoa now report that Zubimendi travelled to London alongside his agent on Sunday.

The Gunners have already reached an agreement to sign the Spaniard for €65 million (£55.6m), and he is set to complete the necessary formalities.

Sociedad have asked to delay the transfer until the next financial year on July 1. Therefore, a deal could be formally announced later this week.

Zubimendi should be a fantastic signing for Arsenal

The 26-year-old has been one of the best holding midfielders in La Liga. He should be a good replacement for Thomas Partey, who is expected to leave when his contract expires tonight.

Zubimendi has similar traits as the Ghanaian. He is strong in contesting duels and won an impressive 62 percent of his aerial challenges last term, with two tackles and four recoveries on average.

His passing accuracy only stood at 84 percent for Sociedad, but he has fared much better in a possession-based side like Spain. He completed 93 percent of his passes in the recent Nations League.

Zubimendi will offer a fresh dimension to the Gunners’ playing style, considering he has a knack for picking out passes through the middle. He likes to take more risks with his distribution.

Kieran Tierney has previously described the Spaniard as ‘world-class‘, and he could definitely be ranked in that category soon if he can make a big impression in the number six role for Arsenal.
