Barcelona’s vice president of sport, Rafa Yuste, has offered an update on the Nico Williams situation amid talk the club’s move for the Athletic star has stalled.
It’s been reported that Williams and his agent have demanded guarantees from Barcelona about his registration before a deal can be finally agreed.
Yuste has been asked for an update and told COPE the Basques are putting on “emotional pressure” which he added “cannot lead to any kind of happiness for Bilbao members.”
The Barca chief went on to say:
“Fom time to time... [Athletic] are not very convinced, happy with FC Barcelona, which I don’t understand because relations with Bilbao have always been excellent.
“Bilbao’s members are intelligent members and they know that any player in Spain or around the world wants to leave a team, they leave, and if they don’t, they stay.”
Barcelona have been expected to pay Williams’ release clause this week and bring him to the club, but it still remains to be seen if that will now happen.
