Man Utd and Ruben Amorim told‘they’d jump at’one transfer without even thinking twice,‘they’ll make contact with…’

Ruben Amorim has been told that he would be making a “huge upgrade” if he offloaded one Manchester United star for a Red Devils-linked ace this summer.

The 40-year-old Manchester United manager has only seen one major signing arrive at Old Trafford this summer amid his overhaul of the Red Devils first-team squad.

The Red Devils wasted no time in the transfer window earlier this month and United signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves after activating his £62.5m release clause.

Matheus Cunha was a key target for United and the Red Devils are expected to bring in further signings before the summer transfer window shuts in September.

Ruben Amorim inherited the majority of his United squad from Erik ten Hag last November and the Portuguese coach needs to bolster certain positions in his side.

The former Sporting CP head coach is also expected to axe first-team players from his United squad ahead of the start of the 2025-26 season at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim sent a clear transfer message about Aston Villa star Emiliano Martinez and Man Utd No 1 Andre Onana

Emiliano Martinez has attracted interest from Manchester United and the 32-year-old Aston Villa star has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Aston Villa are prepared to sell Emiliano Martinez due to the Premier League club’s financial woes, despite the player’s importance to manager Unai Emery.

Martinez has been linked with several clubs in recent weeks, including teams in Saudi Arabia and has received reported interest from Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.

However, the 2022 World Cup winner is believed to be keen on remaining in England and Martinez’s favoured move would reportedly be signing for Ruben Amorim’s men.

Former United chief scout Mick Brown has now insisted that Martinez would be a “huge upgrade” on Andre Onana if United signed the Villa ace this summer.

“Man United have made it clear they would like to sign Martinez,” he told Football Insider.

“They’ll take whatever they can get for Onana, and then they’ll make contact with Aston Villa and see if they can get a deal over the line.

“He’s seen as a huge upgrade on Onana, so they’re prepared to take a hit to get things moving.

“If Man United could swap Onana for Martinez tomorrow, they’d jump at it.”

Ruben Amorim and Man Utd face ‘only’ one ‘issue’ with trying to replace Andre Onana with Aston Villa ace Emiliano Martinez

Emiliano Martinez is under contract with Aston Villa until 2029 and the Argentina international reportedly carries a £40m price tag on his head from his current side.

United are limited with their spending power this summer and the Red Devils are looking to offload players to free up their wages amid making transfers.

Mick Brown has said a roadblock for United in signing Martinez would be first offloading Andre Onana before they step up their pursuit of the ex-Arsenal man.

“Martinez is in his 30s now, but he’s a very capable goalkeeper and they’re not concerned about that,” he continued.

“The only issue as things stand is that they need to move Onana away before they go for Martinez because they don’t want to end up with both on the books.

“They’re waiting for a bid to arrive so that they can accelerate things and start speaking to Villa.

“For now, it’s just what they would like to do, not something they’re able to do.”

Onana, who arrived at Old Trafford from Inter Milan in 2023, is under contract with the Red Devils until 2028 and his future remains uncertain at the club.
