Exciting young Liverpool midfielder Trey Nyoni has signed a new contract with the Reds two years on from arriving from Leicester City, marking his 18th birthday with a present that marks the latest sign in his progression on Merseyside.
Nyoni played for the club's senior, U21s, U19s and U18s teams last season and has made six appearances at first-team level so far. He is viewed as being one of the most highly-rated players of his age group and in his position in the country.
Despite only having just turned 18, Nyoni is an England U20 international. He is the fourth-youngest debutant in Liverpool's history after he came off the bench in the FA Cup win over Southampton in February 2024 at the age of 16 years and 243 days.
Last summer, Nyoni impressed during Liverpool's pre-season and scored at Anfield against Sevilla. However, his chances to impress under Slot were limited.
Nyoni was substituted on during the Champions League game away at PSV Eindhoven at the age of 17 years and 213 days, though. That made him the Reds' youngest-ever player in Europe.
"It means a lot, obviously having supported the club when I was younger as well," Nyoni told the Reds' official channels. "It's a great feeling but now I have to go out and show why I’ve earned this contract.

"I think it's just step-by-step and day-by-day, just getting better and better every day and improving as a player. I'm still young, so there is a lot of improvement. That's the most important thing. I just have to repay them that way."
Slot let a number of young players leave either permanently or on loan during his first summer. But Nyoni was kept around and he has spent a substantial amount of time with the first team.
“I think still this team, with what we have, has a lot of homegrown players," Slot said last August. "One of them, Trey Nyoni, is also training with us on a daily basis at only 17.

"This club will always bring good youngsters. If they want to play somewhere and it’s not possible with us... then you have to, in my opinion, let them develop somewhere else."
Nyoni is likely to feature heavily in pre-season again this summer. Liverpool will return next week with Slot set to get a good period of time on the training field with his stars.
The Reds will play Preston North End a week on Sunday in their first friendly fixture. Liverpool then takes on AC Milan and Yokohama Marinos in Japan and Hong Kong respectively.
It finishes with a double-header against Athletic Bilbao on Monday, August 4. The Community Shield clash with Crystal Palace at Wembley is the following weekend.
