Report: Newcastle player likely to leave despite talks internally

Callum Wilson’s future at Newcastle United remains unclear.

As it stands, Wilson’s contract at Newcastle United is set to expire on Monday June 30, 2025.

Still, Newcastle have held talks with Wilson over a contract extension, albeit there hasn’t been an update on that since news initially broke late last month.

The 33-year-old made 22 appearances across all competitions last season, though only three came from the start as injury problems continued to plague him.

The former England international has been a fine player for Newcastle over the years but lost his starting place to Alexander Isak not long after the Sweden international joined in 2022.

Now, it seems the end may be coming for him on Tyneside.

Newcastle signed Wilson for £20million from Bournemouth in 2020. He has since scored 49 goals in 130 games for the club, helping them stay in the Premier League during the early part of his time at the club.

In the 2022/23 campaign, he scored 18 goals to help Newcastle qualify for the Champions League.

Callum Wilson’s most important Newcastle United goal

If this really is the end of Wilson’s time at Newcastle, he should leave as a modern-day legend.

Without his goals, Newcastle may not have been in a position to be taken over by PIF. Had they been relegated under Steve Bruce, the Newcastle United owners may never have moved to buy the club.

During his time at St James’ Park, Wilson scored 10 game-winning goals. Few, however, were as important as the fine effort he put in against Burnley back in December 2021.

His brilliant goal gave Newcastle their first win under Eddie Howe, setting them on course to make history under the Newcastle United manager.
