Manchester United legend Roy Keane appears set to be on our screens for the foreseeable future after Gary Neville confirmed his old teammate has signed a new contract.
Keane, along with Neville, Paul Scholes, Rio Ferdinand and others, has cut out an impressive career in broadcasting after leaving Old Trafford. The Irishman has been a particularly popular figure on our screens thanks to his iconic rants and rapport with fellow pundits including Ian Wright.
However, there was some concern that Keane may soon decide to call it a day after comments on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, in August 2024 that he was setting his sights on retirement. "I love football, but the hassle of matches, getting to games, and the hassle of fans – I was in court a few months ago with somebody head-butting me – do you think I enjoy that side of it? Absolutely not," he explained.
"The games are fine. Getting to the games, parking up, people shouting your name – good stuff, bad stuff – it's a nuisance. Being a pundit in 10 years, not [going to happen]."
Despite setting his departure timeline for some point in the next decade and already having one eye on life away from the spotlight, Keane will not be retiring in the next two years it seems. This is after Neville confirmed on a behind the scenes episode of the Stick to Football podcast that the former midfielder had signed a new two-year deal to stay on Stick to Football with the rest of the team.
"The exciting thing about today is we've just, in the last week, agreed with Roy, Jill, Carra and Wrighty for another two years," Neville explained in the latest episode. "Whether you like it or not, you're going to get another two years of Stick to Football.
"I think if one of them left, I think I'd close it like you know. Obviously sometimes, you know, Carra's not there because of the Champions League, but I do feel like, you know, you lose something when one of the group isn't there."
Stick to Football continues to be popular among audiences with 1.47m subscribers amassed on YouTube to date. The podcast is expected to return in July as the team begin to gear up for the return of domestic football and the culmination of the Club World Cup and Euro 2025.
