Luis Diaz remains in contention as top club weighs attacking options

Luis Diaz is reportedly still on the radar of Spanish giants FC Barcelona, who may see him as a more viable option this summer.

Diaz’s contract at Liverpool expires in 2027, but his name remains a hot topic in this transfer window as uncertainty grows over his long-term future at Anfield.

Earlier this month, while on international duty, Diaz broke his silence regarding his future: “I’m very happy at Liverpool, I’ve always said it. They’ve treated me well since the first day…. We’re talking with other clubs.”

He added: “It’s the transfer window, it’s normal. We’re waiting to see what happens. If Liverpool renews my contract, or if I have to stay the 2 years I have left, I’ll be happy. It’s up to them.”

Barcelona and Al-Nassr have been the strongest contenders for the 28-year-old, with reports suggesting that Al-Nassr will push hard to sign him in July.

Barcelona were long seen as favourites, especially as Diaz reportedly wants to be part of Hansi Flick’s project. However, in recent weeks, the Spanish club shifted focus to Nico Williams, choosing the Spanish winger as a priority target.

Now, according to Jijantes FC via Managing Barca, Barcelona have not completely ruled out Diaz.

Why Barcelona are still considering Luis Diaz

The La Liga side are currently negotiating with Athletic Bilbao to sign Nico Williams. The release clause stands at €58m, but there are concerns.

Last week, reports emerged that Bilbao raised questions about Barcelona’s ongoing player registration issues. The Catalan club has been facing financial difficulties for years, which has affected their ability to register new signings.

Even though Nico Williams reportedly wants to join Barcelona, the club may need a financial alternative, and Luis Diaz fits that profile. Previously, Barcelona valued Diaz at €51m, while Liverpool reportedly wanted €68m.

If Nico’s deal falls through, Barcelona may reconsider their interest in Diaz. Additionally, if Liverpool agrees to lower their asking price, a deal could become more feasible.
