Newcastle are seriously contemplating a bid for Liverpool attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott, according to reports.
The 23-year-old’s performances for England at the European Under-21 Championships have been lauded by pundits, and TBRFootball claim that the Magpies are “ready to step up their interest” in the player.
Their pursuit has been triggered by their failure to buy Brighton’s Joao Pedro, who is expected to complete his switch to Chelsea over the coming days.

Elliott is not expected to feature prominently in Arne Slot’s plans next season. The arrival of Florian Wirtz means he is unlikely to get opportunities to play in his favoured no.10 role.
After starting just 2 Premier League games for the Reds last campaign, he was already contemplating a move away from Anfield.
Could it impact Liverpool’s attempts to sign Isak?
Some Reds supporters would be keen for their club to use Elliott in a potential offer for Alexander Isak. The midfielder is reportedly valued at £50m, so it could make a move for the Newcastle striker more realistic if there was another player involved in the deal.
Of course, a lot still hinges on whether Isak signs a new contract. If he commits his long-term future to the Magpies, then an exchange of any kind will become a non-starter.
