Bryan Mbeumo transfer statement made after failed Man Utd bids - 'Happy to stay'

Brentford sporting director Phil Giles claims that Bryan Mbeumo is happy to stay at the club beyond the summer if a transfer to Manchester United falls through. The Red Devils have failed with two bids for the 25-year-old winger but are preparing what they hope will be a third and final offer.

Brentford rejected an initial £55million approach at the start of June after Mbeumo expressed Old Trafford was his desired destination. United returned with an improved bid worth £62.5m last week, but the Bees are thought to want a higher total package and more money upfront.

A third offer is in the works, and Mbeumo is expected to ultimately bolster Ruben Amorim's attack ahead of next season.

However, Giles appeared relaxed when questioned about the Cameroon international's future in a new interview.

"There is significant interest in Bryan. I think it has been documented and publicised about his current preference," Giles told Sky Sports.

"I think from what I understand, he is also, if needs be, happy to stay at Brentford next year as well. So, listen, let's see on that.

"I think our position is he had an unbelievable season last year. We expected interest in him. If that deal is right, there is a deal to do. If it is not, he will stay."

He added: "Yeah [there have been conversations about a stay]. I mean, we have spoken to Bryan's representatives. It is not a given that he is going to depart this summer. There is interest.

"We know he had a great season last season, so it is inevitable that there is interest in him.

"If we get the right offer, there is potential for a deal to be done, but there is only so much we can say right now on that."

Brentford reportedly value Mbeumo slightly higher than the £62.5m that United paid Wolves to sign Matheus Cunha earlier in the summer.

The Red Devils appear to be negotiating cautiously to stay in line with a limited budget on the back of failing to qualify for European football.

There is room in Amorim's kitty to sign Mbeumo without requiring player sales, but any further incomings would rely on exits.
