Manchester United’s pursuit of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo has been well documented, with The Red Devils prioritising a move for the talented attacker.

It’s understood that the interest works both ways, with Mbeumo being quite vocal about his desire to move to Old Trafford.

As such, the two clubs are locked into negotiations over a transfer fee for the Cameroon international to undertake a medical assessment, originally expected to be this week.

Now, Brentford’s sporting director Phil Giles has spoken with Sky Sports to discuss the situation.

Discussing Bryan Mbeumo and the transfer links with Manchester United, Giles commented: “It’s been documented and publicised about, you know, his current preference.

He continued: “I think, from what I understand, he’s also, if needs be, happy to stay at Brentford for next year as well.

“So let’s see on that. I think, our position is he had an unbelievable season last year. We expected interest in him.

“If that deal is right, then there’s a deal to do, if not, then he’ll stay.”

When pressed about the potential of Mbeumo staying with Brentford, Giles commented: “We’ve spoken to Bryan and his representatives, and it’s not a given that he’s going to depart this summer.”

He continued: “There is interest, he had a great season last season, so its inevitable to have interest in him. If we get the right offer then there’s a potential deal to be done, but if not, there’s only so much we can say right now on that.”
