West Ham boss Potter plots summer reunion as Hammers look to bring Swede to London Stadium

West Ham United want to buy Elfsborg goalkeeper coach Linus Kandolin out of his contract and bring him to the London Stadium club this summer, according to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen.

The Swede and Hammers manager Graham Potter worked together at Ostersunds, and a reunion ahead of next season is now on the cards.

Kandolin left Ostersunds in 2019 for Elfsborg, recently extending his contract last September until 2027, leaving suitors with no choice but to pay a fee to recruit his services, and the West Ham boss has been monitoring his progress.

The 34-year-old also works with the Sweden under-21 national team as goalkeeper coach having worked with the under-17s and under-18s, and he will now be looking to continue his career in the Premier League.

West Ham parted with Polish goalie Lukasz Fabianski after seven seasons at the end of last season, and Kandolin will be working with Alphonse Areola, Wes Foderingham and Krisztian Hegyi at the club.

He helped fetch Elfsborg a record transfer fee for a goalkeeper in the Swedish league after Brentford paid £2.6 million for Hakon Valdimarsson in January 2024, and he could help improve Areola and co.

West Ham shipped 62 league goals last term after finishing 14th in the table, and they will need to make significant improvement in between the sticks going forward if they want to start qualifying for Europe regularly.

Kandolin will be tasked with making the goalkeeping options available to Potter better, and he will fancy his chances of getting the job done given his impressive track record.

It remains to be seen whether the Hammers plan to sign another goalie following the departure of Fabianski, but the incoming coach could play a huge role in whatever decision the club makes in the coming weeks.
