The Liverpool pre-season is rapidly approaching on July 8, with the club already announcing impressive transfer business well ahead of the first day of pre-season.
The likes of Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez will be able to gel with their new teammates nice and early ahead of the new campaign.
And it seems the club are likewise paying attention to their youth by ensuring the future of one academy starlet who will almost certainly be on the plane to Hong Kong and Japan this summer.
The club have announced that young midfielder Trey Nyoni has penned a new long-term contract at the club.
Signed from Leicester City’s academy in 2023, the 18-year-old is highly rated within Anfield – and signs his new deal on his birthday.
Nyoni featured for Liverpool’s senior side, U21s, U19s, and U18s throughout last season and has accumulated six first-team appearances so far.
An England U20 international, he made history by becoming Liverpool’s fourth-youngest debutant when he came off the bench in the FA Cup against Southampton in February 2024, aged just 16 years and 243 days.
He has impressed Arne Slot in first-team training and caught the eye during pre-season friendlies, including a well-struck goal against Sevilla at Anfield during pre-season last year.
The club officially confirmed that it was “long-term contract”, but no length was stipulated.
Speaking to club media after sealing the deal, Nyoni said:
“It means a lot, obviously supporting the club from young as well so it’s a great feeling,” he said.
“But now I have to go out and show why I’ve earned this contract.”
“I think it’s just step-by-step, day-by-day to become better every day and keep improving as a player.”
“I’m still young, so there’s a lot of improvement [still to be made]. That’s the most important thing – just repay them [Liverpool] in that way.”
