The start of July is the start of a new period in the summer transfer window as the new accounting period for Premier League clubs refreshes. It means that from the start of next month, can get their transfer business back on track.
Ruben Amorim's men have already signed Matheus Cunhu from Wolves for a deal worth £62.5million. United are also in talks with Brentford to sign Bryan Mbeumo after failing with two bids.
An improved fell short of the Bees' valuation for the forward and . The feeling is that Mbeumo wants to join United and in a dream scenario, the 25-year-old will be part of the Reds' squad that flies to the United States.
Now, with the transfer window entering a crucial period, United are expected to up the ante in their business and further bolster Amorim's team. . It's all about Profit and Sustainability rules (PSR) and the new month means clubs, traditionally, spend their transfer kitty at the start of the accounting period to offset their overall balance for the year.
Liverpool and Manchester City have both spent millions on improving their team in June. However, minus a small number of deals here and there, the majority of the Premier League are set to activate their transfer plans this month.
The biggest proof of that is Chelsea. Their participation in the Club World Cup meant they decided to activate Liam Delap's £30m release clause earlier this month but Enzo Maresca has moved quickly in lining up
Pedro, who was expected to seal a move to Newcastle, is closing in on becoming signing number five at Stamford Bridge after an agreement was reached with Brighton. MEN Sport's sister title,, has reported that a fee worth £55m plus £5m in add-ons will see the Brazilian bolster Chelsea's attack.
Arsenal are another club expected to see a flurry of business in July after getting their house in order this month. The Gunners have advanced on three deals, all lined up to be completed in the new financial period.
The north Londoners are also set to sign a striker this summer and that deal could be the green light United have been waiting for in their pursuit of a new No.9. but the Gunners are understood to prefer Benjamin Sesko.
However, Hugo Ekitike has emerged as a target at the Emirates Stadium. Like Sesko, Ekitike was a bagsman in Germany last season. Chelsea opted for Delap over Ekitike due to his €100m (£85m) price tag but with Arsenal growing frustrated at the lack of movement for Gyokeres and Sesko, the Frenchman is now thought to be a 'serious' option.
A fee of around £67m has been mooted as a price that Eintracht Frankfurt may accept but reports in Germany have claimed a move is still a long way off. However, if Arsenal do pursue Ekitike, United have a free pass at Gyokeres.
The latest with the Sporting CP striker is that he has expressed his outrage at the behaviour of Frederico Varandas, the club's president, recently.
Joao Pedro to Chelsea and Ekitike to Arsenal, two transfers that place a bigger wedge between United and England's best, could be the ultimate green light for Gyokeres to Old Trafford.
