Man United Add 6ft 5 Keeper (Who Can Be Signed For Just £6M) To 3-Man Shortlist As Club Make Onana Decision

Manchester United are considering whether to sign Botafogo goalkeeper John Victor as a potential replacement for Andre Onana, according to reports.

The Sun claims that the 6ft 5 shot-stopper is on the club’s shortlist, along with Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez and Porto’s Diogo Costa.

John would be the cheapest target (by far), with Botafogo said to be willing to let him leave for only £6m this summer.

Considering the limited funds that the Red Devils are playing with, the Brazilian may well become the top target.

What is the situation with Onana?

The Sun report that Ruben Amorim’s side are struggling to find a buyer for the Cameroon international due to his wage demands.

Monaco were interested in snapping up Onana but they were scared off by his salary. He currently takes home £120,000 a week which isn’t a huge amount by Premier League standards.

Nonetheless, clubs are not willing to come forward and it may lead to the keeper being offloaded on loan instead.

Man United won’t have money for Martinez or Costa

If Onana is loaned out, it would jeopardise plans to sign either Martinez or Costa. The former is expected to be sold by Villa for a fee between £30m and £40m this summer, while it is believed Porto want at least €50m (£43m) up front for the latter.

With that being the case, you can see a situation whereby John becomes the most viable option. Of course, many fans will rightly ask question whether the Brazilian would be much of an upgrade on Onana.

At the moment, United’s current No.1 is not close to leaving Old Trafford, but it is a situation to keep an eye on between now and the end of August.
