Brentford director of football Phil Giles has admitted that Christian Norgaard is “more likely than not” to complete a move to Arsenal, with a £15 million transfer now nearing the final stages.
The 31-year-old midfielder has been the subject of talks between the two London clubs for weeks, and a breakthrough was reached when Arsenal had an offer of £10 million plus £5 million in add-ons accepted.
While the deal is not yet official, Norgaard is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days before signing a multi-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.
Giles confirmed the talks, telling Sky Sports that Arsenal had approached Brentford in the past fortnight and that the situation is progressing in the Gunners’ favour.
He praised Norgaard’s service and leadership at Brentford, stating that the Dane has “earned the opportunity” to take the next step in his career and challenge for major honours.

Norgaard has spent six years with Brentford, playing a pivotal role in their rise from Championship hopefuls to a stable Premier League side.
The Denmark international featured in 34 Premier League matches last season and contributed six goals and four assists from a deep midfield position.
Arsenal view Norgaard as a seasoned Premier League operator who can bring both experience and reliability to the squad.
His arrival will help offset the departures of Jorginho, who left on a free transfer to Flamengo, and Thomas Partey, who is also expected to leave this summer after contract talks stalled.
Norgaard’s strengths lie in his defensive acumen and work rate. He ranked among the Premier League’s best for interceptions and ball recoveries last season, and his aerial threat from set-pieces has also been widely noted.
At 6ft 2in, he offers an additional physical presence in midfield and is noted for his set-piece threat since Brentford’s promotion.
Mikel Arteta is said to value the Dane’s ball-winning qualities and professionalism, with his consistency seen as a valuable asset heading into another busy season.
Norgaard is expected to slot in as a direct replacement for Jorginho, allowing Martin Zubimendi, whose arrival from Real Sociedad is imminent, to take over as the primary holding midfielder.
Declan Rice, meanwhile, is set to continue in a more advanced No 8 role after a productive season further forward.
Barring any late complications, Norgaard will join Arsenal’s summer signings.
