The Los Angeles Lakers may need to make major adjustments to the roster this summer if they wish to be true championship contenders again.
But there is one thing they definitely do not want to do: lose Luka Doncic.
Thankfully, a new report from Sam Amick, per Legion Hoops, says that Doncic is “widely expected” to sign a long-term extension with the Lakers next month.
This is great news for the Lakers, their fans, and bad news for the rest of the Western Conference.

When Doncic came to the Lakers, many people wondered how long he’d be there.
Would he remain in Los Angeles for the rest of his career, or would he only be in purple and gold for a season or two before moving to another destination?
Doncic has said he’s a loyal player and would like to find a team he can stick with forever.
The fact that he reportedly wants to sign a contract extension with the Lakers suggests that he envisions being there for good.
During his 28 regular-season games with the Lakers in 2024-25, Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists, which is very close to what he was doing in Dallas.
This means that Doncic hasn’t lost his talent, and he could bring many years of great success to LA.
With Doncic apparently on board for a long-term stay with the Lakers, the team has to consider who else will be on the roster and work with him.
With LeBron James’ retirement looming, LA has to be thinking of a future where Doncic is running the team completely by himself.
