Analyst Opens up on ‘Established’ NY Giants Rookie Jaxson Dart

Heading into this season, a major topic of discussion for the New York Giants will be the quarterback position. While Russell Wilson was brought in on a one-year deal to bridge the gap, rookie Jaxson Dart continues to make a strong first impression.

Coming off a strong senior season at Ole Miss, Dart was viewed as one of the top QB prospects in the NFL Draft. The Giants clearly view him as their long-term answer at the position, as they traded into the end of the first round to secure him. However, the franchise appears to be taking an old-school approach to his development.

These days, teams just throw their young prospects right into the mix in year one. That won't be the case with Dart though. With Wilson signing with New York in free agency, he'll assume the starting role in 2025 before eventually handing the reins over to Dart.

Though the Giants might have a long-term plan with Dart, he could end up forcing their hand. He's already jumped ahead of Jamis Winston on the depth chart as he continues to turn heads. If he's able to put on a strong showing in training camp, New York could have a QB battle on their hands.

While on SportsCenter over the weekend, NFL insider Jeremey Fowler touched on how Dart has looked for the Giants thus far. He cited two key areas where the young QB has excelled during his early stages in the pros.

"I was told from somebody with the team that late in OTAs, things finally started to click for Dart, as far as the mental portion of the game – learning the cadence, what Brian Daboll wants out of the offense, decision-making," Fowler said. "He carried that over into minicamp. Look, they're taking it slowly. This is not a situation where he's going to be thrust into action early. They have Russell Wilson ready to go. But they feel like Dart established himself in two areas: He's a quick learner and he's highly motivated."

Based on all the discourse around Dart thus far, the Giants should feel good about where they're at regarding the QB position moving forward. Following a failed experiment with Daniel Jones, the franchise might have a new first-round pick capable of being a pillar for the team moving forward.
