Report: Sebastiaan Bornauw fee will help Wolfsburg replace Lukas Nmecha, top target is £17m man on Leeds radar

The transfer window is often a merry-go-round in which cash and players trade hands, and that is the world in which Leeds United will live for the next nine weeks.

A player becomes available because another player has joined that club and left a hole at another club as cash is transferred, deposited and discussed throughout July and August. A source of excitement for fans.

Leeds are about to make their third signing of the summer. A £5m fee has been agreed with Wolfsburg to sign Belgium international Sebastiaan Bornauw, with the 26-year-old’s contract expiring in June 2026.

It sees Leeds add another centre-back alongside fellow new recruit Jaka Bijol, while Bornauw, who is set to undergo a medical on Monday, will immediately reunite with Wolfsburg teammate Lukas Nmecha.

Wolfsburg eye striker on Leeds United radar to replace Nmecha

Wolfsburg are expected to be heavily involved in the transfer market this summer. They have lost a few players, such as Bornauw and Nmecha, and need to bring in replacements before the start of the season.

With Wolfsburg set to rake in at least £5m for Bornauw, that cash will be reinvested and according to the ever-reliable Kicker, Wolfsburg are targeting a striker that is currently on Leeds United’s shopping list.

Indeed, Wolfsburg want to sign Josh Sargent. Signed by Farke at Norwich in the summer of 2021, USA star Sargent is a £17m target for Leeds with The Whites yet to bring in a starting striker this summer.

Josh Sargent is better than Joel Piroe, according to Josh Windass

Sargent endured an up-and-down season last term, struggling with injury but still managing to score an impressive 15 goals in 32 games for a side that failed to reach the play-offs. He also laid on five assists.

It is clear to see why Farke may want to sign the American, but there are some players that are excellent in the Championship and struggle to do it in the Premier League. So far, Sargent is firmly in this category.

But there is no doubt that Sargent’s rate of goals and indeed, his goals involvements as a whole, were much better than Piroe last term. It saw Sargent picked in the Championship Team of the Season.

That is, despite Piroe winning the golden boot. According to Sheffield Wednesday’s Josh Windass, who himself scored double figures in the Championship last season, Sargent is the division’s best striker.
