The Miami Dolphins currently have one of the worst safety rooms in the NFL, having lost their two starters in free agency. The two projected starters include former Detroit Lions second-stringer Ifeatu Melifonwu, with 14 career starts, and former New York Jets starter and second-stringer Ashtyn Davis, with 22 career starts. Fifth-round pick Dante Trader Jr. is also in the mix.
Because of this, the Dolphins could be in the market for a veteran.

Due to him being on the decline and his contract, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been actively trying to trade Minkah Fitzpatrick since March. He enters the third year of his four-year, $73,612,235 contract, and he is scheduled to earn a $15.5 million base salary, $0 guaranteed, and a $22.355 million cap hit in 2025. Fitzpatrick allowed a 78.8% completion percentage, 540 passing yards, four touchdowns, and a 127.6 passer rating, but still made it to his fifth Pro Bowl.

According to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Steelers have agreed to a massive multi-player trade and a pick swap. The Dolphins acquire Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick, and the Steelers get Jalen Ramsey, Jonnu Smith, and a 2027 seventh-round pick. As a result, Fitzpatrick reunites with his former team after spending the last 5.5 years in Pittsburgh, upgrading the safety position.
It’s all one trade and it’s a doozy, with the #Dolphins sending two key players who wanted new homes and/or contracts (Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith) to the #Steelers for Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 pick swap that gives Miami an extra 5th-rounder. https://t.co/pImxTQVe46
