Steelers land All-Pro Jalen Ramsey in blockbuster trade

The Pittsburgh Steelers continued their busy offseason on Monday, landing Dolphins star cornerback Jalen Ramsey in a blockbuster trade.

Ramsey announced the news on Twitter himself, posting a video with the caption, “Break my own news! #HereWeGo @steelers.”

From there, details of the trade started to be released. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pittsburgh traded All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Dolphins for Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith and a 2027 seventh-round pick.

The Steelers were rumored as a potential landing spot for Jalen Ramsey for weeks, although Schefter reported last week that he was more likely to end up on the West Coast than in Pittsburgh. However, ultimately Pittsburgh got the deal done and added one of the top cornerbacks in all of football.

Ramsey is a seven-time Pro Bowler who has been named a first-team All-Pro three times. The former Florida State star also won a Super Bowl while playing for the Rams.

As a part of the trade, he is set to receive a $1.5 million raise this season, according to Schefter. That puts his salary for the 2025 season at $26.6 million.

The addition of Jonnu Smith could also be big for the Steelers as he is coming off of the best season of his career. Smith caught 88 passes for 884 yards and eight touchdowns in 2024 -- all career highs.

Smith is receiving a one-year contract extension for $12 million with the trade, per Schefter.

While Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith should help the Steelers in 2025, losing Fitzpatrick is a blow. A former first-round pick of the Dolphins, Fitzpatrick is returning to Miami after spending six seasons with the Steelers.

The former Alabama star has earned five Pro Bowl selections and three first-team All-Pro honors in his career.

It has been a busy offseason for the Steelers, who appear to be all-in heading into the 2025 season.

While adding Ramsey and Smith are the latest moves, Pittsburgh also signed future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year contract this offseason.

Rodgers said that he expects this to be his last season in the NFL.

The Steelers also traded for star receiver DK Metcalf this offseason and signed former Eagles cornerback Darius Slay to a contract.

The team is set to look much different in 2025, with a number of veterans who are motivated to help Pittsburgh get to the playoffs, have success there and potentially win a Super Bowl.
