Official: Barcelona youngster joins Croatian giants on permanent transfer

The exits from FC Barcelona’s reserve team, Barça Atletic, continue as Sergi Dominguez has now signed for Dinamo Zagreb, the Croatian giants have officially confirmed.

“Young Spanish defender Sergi Dominguez is Dinamo’s new player,” the statement read.

“Dominguez has signed a multi-year contract with the Blues, arriving at Maksimir after graduating from Barcelona’s renowned football academy, La Masia .

“In coach Mario Kovacevic’s team, he will compete for a spot in the central part of the defensive line, primarily as a right-sided centre-back.”

Dominguez made his first-team debut for Barcelona last season under Hansi Flick after getting an opportunity on the pre-season tour of the USA.

The 20-year-old defender went on to make six senior appearances for the Blaugrana.

Given the overcrowded centre-back department at the club, a pathway to a regular first-team spot was always unlikely for Dominguez and he has now opted to sign for Dinamo Zagreb to continue his development.

As has previously been reported, Barça are expected to make €1.2 million in transfer fees from the La Masia talent’s sale and will likely retain a 20% future sell-on clause.

Dominguez becomes the latest youngster to leave Barcelona after the departures of talents like Diego Percan, Aleix Garrido, Ander Astralaga, and Pau Prim, among others.
