'For sure...' - Fabrizio Romano shares Mbeumo to Man Utd update today after 'new' talks

Manchester United are shortly set to get a second deal over the line for one of their stars, Fabrizio Romano has revealed exclusively in his GIVEMESPORT transfer newsletter - with a deal for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo being close to completion after further talks over the weekend.

United have already landed Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha on a £62.5million deal after his outstanding season saw him score 15 top-flight goals for the Molineux outfit - and they could be set to add more established Premier League experience in Mbeumo, who notched an outstanding 20 for the Bees as they secured a top-half finish on the final day of the campaign.

United made their second bid for the Cameroonian last week, totalling over £60million after their initial £55million bid, including add-ons, was rejected earlier in June.

It's thought that Mbeumo will become their second signing, despite needing an out-and-out striker as well as a central midfielder to replace Christian Eriksen, and Andre Onana, who was in poor form last season after recording a catalogue of errors.

And now Romano has stated that United may even get the deal done for Mbeumo this week, with the club remaining optimistic after further talks with Brentford on Sunday as they aim to close negotiations. He exclusively wrote in his GIVEMESPORT transfer newsletter:

"Can be for sure. Contacts will continue and Man United remain optimistic, after new contacts also on Sunday."

Mbeumo and Cunha's combined 35 Premier League goals last season were only nine less than United's entire total, meaning that goals should be back in United's system should they hit the ground running next season to try to drag the Red Devils back to the top half, with boss Ruben Amorim having finished in a lowly 15th place last season and thus failing to qualify for European football.

It still hasn't fixed United's woes in the striking department as Mbeumo and Cunha will likely play in the two 'No.10' positions that Amorim favours - but it's a start, allowing Bruno Fernandes to drop further back into the midfield to create from deep, as well as allowing Amad Diallo to cause havoc on the right-hand side and Patrick Dorgu down the left flank.
