Official: Liverpool’s Trey Nyoni Signs New Long-Term Deal

Two years after switching to Liverpool’s academy from Leicester, 18-year-old Trey Nyoni has today signed a new long-term contract that will see him continue his development with the Premier League champion Reds.

“It means a lot, obviously supporting the club from young as well,” the young midfielder said of agreeing a new Liverpool deal. “It’s a great feeling. But now I have to go out and show why I’ve earned this contract.

“I think it’s just step by step, day by day, just becoming better every day, just improving as a player. I’m still young, there’s a lot of improvement. That’s the most important thing. I just have to repay them in that way.”

Nyoni’s move was somewhat controversial at the time as he had been with Leicester for a decade and was seen as the club’s top young talent, and the two sides weren’t able to come to an agreement over a fee.

Two years on from that, we’re still waiting for a tribunal verdict to determine how much training compensation his former club—though not the club it seems Nyoni grew up supporting—will be entitled to receive.

While Nyoni hasn’t yet made a Premier League appearance, he has played three times in the FA Cup and twice in the League Cup, making his debut for Jürgen Klopp but with four of his appearances in 2024-25 under Arne Slot.

Nyoni is projected as a box-to-box midfielder, a number eight whose game so far has shaded slightly to the attacking side. At the moment there is no suggestion the club plans to loan him out for the 2025-26 season.
