West Ham announces Kristie Mewis will depart club

West Ham has announced that American midfielder Kristie Mewis will leave the club when her contract expires on Monday.

Mewis joined the Hammers in December 2023, but only managed to make four appearances during her 18 months with the Women's Super League club.

Injuries limited Mewis to just three games last season. This season, the 34-year-old played one game before announcing her pregnancy in November.

Mewis, who is engaged to Australia and Chelsea star Sam Kerr, gave birth to baby boy Jagger in May.

"On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to thank Kristie for her contributions to West Ham United during her time in east London," manager Rehanne Skinner said.

"Kristie has been unlucky with injuries since she joined us so probably hasn’t played in the famous Claret and Blue as many times as she would have liked, but it’s still been a total pleasure having someone of her calibre and experience within our team environment.

"As Kristie starts to navigate her new norm of motherhood, we fully appreciate that her priorities have changed and so, whatever the future has in store for her and her family, I would like to wish them all the very best."

Mewis has earned 52 caps with the U.S. women's national team, scoring seven goals. Her most recent USWNT appearance came at the 2023 World Cup, when she came off the bench in the round of 16 against Sweden just before a penalty shootout.

Mewis converted her spot kick, but the USWNT ultimately lost in the tiebreaker.
