Leeds United will have to get over a hurdle to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope this transfer window.
The Whites are in search of a new goalkeeper after Daniel Farke dropped Illan Meslier from the starting lineup towards the end of last season.
Fenerbahce were being linked with the ex-Lorient ace, but reports of an agreement regarding his move were premature.
Pope has emerged as a target at Elland Road as his position may be under threat with the possible arrival of Burnley shot-stopper James Trafford, but the West Yorkshire outfit will potentially face obstacles in their bid to sign him in the coming weeks.

The news outlet reports (30 June) that even if the Magpies sign Trafford this summer, sources close to the 33-year-old have indicated that he has no intention of leaving St James’ Park.

It’s been claimed that while a new goalkeeper is being pursued at Elland Road, the England international is unlikely to be the solution for them.
49ers Enterprises will arguably realise that to improve their chances of survival next season, the West Yorkshire outfit may need a quality shot-stopper to cope with the rigours of the Premier League.

Meslier replacement should be signed soon at Leeds
Chelsea’s Djordje Petrovic could be of interest to Leeds this summer, and the Whites have an opportunity to sign him, with Enzo Maresca not keen on the 25-year-old.
The West Yorkshire outfit play their first pre-season friendly against Manchester United on 19 July in Sweden, and fans will hope a new goalkeeper is signed before then.
Farke needs to embed new players into his system ahead of facing Everton in their first Premier League fixture in two years.
Leeds rightly benched Meslier last season after some abysmal performances from him, and the lack of faith in the Frenchman means that his exit may be inevitable.
The former Lorient ace’s current contract at Elland Road expires in 2026, and this could potentially be the last chance for the Whites to cash in on him.
It would be surprising to see the 25-year-old retain his place in the starting lineup under Farke and sign a new deal at the West Yorkshire outfit.
Aaron Ramsdale is another name the Peacocks have their eyes on, but what the future holds in LS11 remains to be seen.
