Leeds United lose out to Saudi Arabian club in talks for Poland star, but there is a silver lining - opinion

Leeds United’s attempts to sign a Polish player have failed with the Saudi Pro League’s riches proving difficult to turn down once again, but it could prove to be a blessing in disguise.

Sunderland are set to beat Leeds to the signings of both Habib Diarra and Reinildo Mandava, with the latter now officially a free agent after his contract with Atletico Madrid came to an end on June 30.

There was concern that Sunderland could win a third race in quick succession. Indeed, reports said that Nice and Poland goalkeeper Marcin Bulka had rejected a move to Leeds and preferred Sunderland.

Leeds are in the market for a new goalkeeper with Illan Meslier, Alex Cairns and Karl Darlow all in the final year of their contracts at Elland Road. Meslier is expected to leave Elland Road in the coming weeks.

Neom strike to sign Marcin Bulka ahead of Leeds and Sunderland

Now, a report from French newspaper L’Equipe says newly-promoted Saudi Pro League side Neom have struck a deal to land Bulka from Nice. They are also about to appoint Christophe Galtier as manager.

Neom have also signed Alexandre Lacazette and boast Said Benrahma among their ranks. Now, Neom have agreed a £13m fee with Nice with personal terms not expected to be a problem for Poland’s Bulka.

Leeds and Sunderland held talks to sign Bulka from Nice, but the report states that the former Chelsea and PSG stopper was not deemed a priority by either Premier League club and it showed in negotiations.

Neom signing Marcin Bulka helps Leeds land Lyon star Lucas Perri

Prior to reports that Leeds had held talks for Bulka, it was claimed Leeds and Neom were going head-to-head to sign Lyon’s Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri. The shot-stopper is also rated at around £13m.

Lyon have been relegated to Ligue 2. While LeedsUnited.News understands Lyon’s appeal against the DNGC’s ruling will be successful, Leeds hold an interest in Perri, who once went on loan to Crystal Palace.

Neom signing Bulka ahead of Leeds then, gives The Whites a free run at signing Lyon’s Perri with Neom’s need for a new goalkeeper now over, after signing Bulka. Perri’s future depends on Lyon’s appeal.
