The Wisconsin Badgers saw two of their seniors earn NBA opportunities this past week, as John Tonje was drafted by the Utah Jazz with the No. 53 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, while Steven Crowl signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Jazz.
Tonje was expected to go in the second round of the draft, but his exact spot was unclear. He joins a Jazz team that added quite a bit of shooting with first-rounders Ace Bailey and Walter Clayton Jr. in the draft.
Crowl will look to earn a two-way contract this summer as he camps with the team. He worked out for a number of teams during the pre-draft process, and his shooting, passing, and size could work in his favor at the next level.
However, those two aren’t the only seniors who have earned professional opportunities. The Badgers announced that forward Carter Gilmore has signed a pro contract with the Den Helder Suns in the Netherlands.
Den Helder plays in the BNXT league in Belgium, and went 12-24 this past season, finishing 15th in the league.
Gilmore had his breakout season in 2024-25, stepping into a key role as a senior and averaging 3.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, while shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 33.9 percent from deep.
Known for his defensive ability, Gilmore has the ability to switch onto bigger guards and forwards, but also play small-ball center with good instincts and hustle. But, he drastically improved his three-point shot this season, which had been an aftermath in years past, aiding in Wisconsin’s five-out offense.
The 6’7, 225-pound Wisconsin native will now try to make his mark overseas as he begins his professional career.
