The Detroit Pistons may be without last year’s top three-point shooter, which could play a role in the organization going after another sharpshooter in free agency.
After declining his $20 million early termination option to become a free agent, the Miami Heat’s Duncan Robinson should be among the top shooters on the market this offseason.
And the Pistons are currently “weighing a run” at the 31-year-old guard, according to a report from [The Stein Line](https://marcstein.substack.com/p/the-latest-freshest-and-hottest-nba?utm_campaign=email-post&r=3shtjf&utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email).
Although its still possible key free agents and three-point shooters Malik Beasley and Tim Hardaway could return for next season, the Pistons will need to be prepared for the likelihood they’re don’t.
Bringing in Robinson, an ex-Michigan guard who’s spent his entire NBA career with the Heat, could fill some of that void.
A career 39.7% three-point shooter, Robinson has been a major contributor for the Heat over seven seasons, in a variety of roles.
While he’s started 283 regular-season games for the Heat, Robinson is very capable of being an impact off the bench as well.
His deep threat often helped Miami in getting spacing for its other key shooters to go with Robinson’s solid production.
Robinson started half of his 74 games for the Heat last season and averaged 11 points per game on 43.7% shooting from the field and 39.3% from beyond the arc.
Beasley was reportedly near a three-year deal to return to the Pistons when [reports of a U.S. District Attorney’s office investigation into NBA gambling](https://www.mlive.com/pistons/2025/06/pistons-malik-beasley-subject-of-investigation-into-alleged-nba-gambling.html) allegedly claimed Beasley bet on NBA games during the 2023-2024 season.
That’s put conversations on pause and the Pistons potentially saying goodbye to their top shooter from last season. Beasley ranked second in the NBA for made three-pointers (319) and shot a team-best 41.6% from deep.
As Detroit tries to lock down their roster next year, Robinson may be a name to keep an eye on if the Pistons pursue him aggressively.
