Veteran wide receiver Terry McLaurin had a spectacular season in 2024 for the Washington Commanders, but the two sides have still yet to agree on a new contract extension for the star wideout, who recorded 13 TD catches a year ago.
So it has led many to speculate that the team should trade him.
In a recent video posted by Bleacher Report, Mitch Milani puts together a bunch of trade package ideas in exchange for the Commanders star. And one of the deals he proposes would have Washington sending McLaurin to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for former first-round receiver Treylon Burks and a second-round pick in 2026.
"This Tennessee wide receiving corps is not that good and that makes me concerned about Cam Ward as a rook," Milani said. "Now imagine if Terry McLaurin and Calvin Ridley were playing together... On top of that, let’s talk about Treylon Burks ... He was supposed to be the guy to replace AJ Brown that didn’t exactly work out in Tennessee, but he still has enough physical talent, and enough upside that does exist in his profile to be able to buy into as a cheap option if you’re the Commanders. Like let’s coach them up let’s see what he is in our system."
While it may not be a bad trade for the Commanders to make, it doesn't quite make sense for the team to make this deal at this point with how good they could be in 2025.
Jayden Daniels emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in his rookie season, and McLaurin was a big part of that. He racked up just under 1,100 yards, and finished with double-digit touchdowns for the first time in his career.
He had maybe the best season of his six-year career, so him switching quarterbacks at the moment might not be in his best interests.
Our NFL insider Mike Fisher's evaluation of this idea?
"Burks is not a commodity,'' Fish says. "So this is essentially McLaurin for a second-rounder. That's not happening ... so the only attraction here would be Washington sending a great player to a non-contending team in the other conference.
"And it's still not happening.''
Washington has expressed many times that they are eventually going to agree on a new deal with the star wide receiver, as he could be a key contributor in them making a run for the Super Bowl. So, the best bet?
That is what will soon "be happening.''
