Ruben Amorim is facing what many believe to be the most challenging summer of any Premier League manager.

Having taken the reins at Manchester United in November, Amorim is preparing for a full-scale rebuild with limited time, resources, and clarity.

There’s an expectation that multiple signings will arrive close to the start of the season.

Thus, making it far harder for Amorim to implement his system during pre-season.

It’s a high-stakes puzzle, one that requires instant impact from arrivals.

A near-impossible task given the scale of United’s issues.

Matheus Cunha’s arrival from Wolves will certainly help inject quality into the forward line.

While Bryan Mbeumo is expected to follow and provide further threat to a side that only scored 44 Premier League goals last season.

But the striker role remains the most pressing concern.

Especially with Rasmus Hojlund’s form falling off a cliff last season, and a summer exit to Inter Milan being actively explored.

United simply cannot afford to get that position wrong again.

Amorim knows exactly who he wants to lead his new-look attack.

According to The Athletic, Ruben Amorim’s one dream this transfer window is to reunite with Viktor Gyokeres – the forward he helped elevate to elite level at Sporting CP.

While Amorim is determined to bring Gyokeres to Old Trafford, the Swedish striker is currently edging towards a move to Arsenal should he leave Portugal, according to The Athletic’s report.

Arsenal director Andrea Berta is playing a huge part in pushing for the deal to come to fruition.

Gyokeres’ career exploded in 2023/24 with 43 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, followed by a staggering 54 goals and 12 assists in 52 games in 2024/25.

Before Amorim’s departure from Sporting in November, Gyokeres famously scored a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City.

A performance that continued to push the vision of Gyokeres joining United, to smash the Premier League under Amorim.
