Manchester United’s need for a new goalkeeper seems quite pronounced this summer, with the Red Devils seemingly looking to replace Andre Onana in goal if the opportunity presents itself. The Cameroon international has had a tough couple of seasons at Old Trafford.

It has been a while since Man Utd have had a reliable presence inbetween the sticks at their club. Ever since David de Gea was let go of, which in hindsight turned out to be a torrid decision, the Red Devils have struggled at the back.

Ruben Amorim did put his faith in Onana for much of the half season that he was in charge of but seemed to be sending a clear message when he left the ex-Ajax star out of the matchday squad for the Premier League curtain closer.

Some time ago, we covered a story revealing that Man Utd wanted to sign talented Atalanta shot-stopper Marco Carnesecchi to replace Onana this summer.

The Italian has done very well for the Serie A side and could be ready to make the move to the Premier League.

Now, as per Alfredo Pedulla, Man Utd are now ready to bid £34m to sign the 24-year-old shot-stopper but Atalanta are asking for a fee in the range of around £43m to part ways with one of their most important players this summer.

Italian heritage?

Italy have produced a long list of talented goalkeepers since the legendary Gigi Buffon and the presence of the dominating Donnarumma and a talented deputy in Guglielmo Vicario has prevented the Atalanta star from winning a cap for his international side.

That said, Carnesecchi is an Atalanta star in his own right and would be a very decent upgrade on Andre Onana.

He is at a similar level to where the Cameroonian was back when he was signed from Inter Milan but the potential is there to bet on.

The 24-year-old is a very good shot-stopper who is adequate with his feet. He is not as adventurous as Onana, which in this case could turn out to be a good thing.

His arrival at Old Trafford could directly be correlated with a potential departure for the existing #24 and let’s wait and see how it goes.
