Florian Plettenberg has revealed the three strikers Liverpool are considering in their search for a No. 9.
After winning the Premier League title last season, the Reds have set out to improve their squad and make it even better to secure as many titles as possible next season.
Five senior players have already been added to the squad this summer. Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman are the players that Arne Slot and co. have signed this summer.
There are expected to be more additions before the window closes, with a centre back and a new striker thought to be high on Liverpool’s list.
Current No. 9 options Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota were underwhelming in Arne Slot’s first season at Liverpool.
As a result, the Dutchman is looking for reinforcements in that area to help the title push net season.
Several No. 9 options have been linked with a possible move to Anfield, but Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has revealed the three concrete options on the table for Liverpool.
According to the German journalist, Liverpool have Hugo Ekitike, Alexander and Victor Osimhen on their list of players to fill the No.9 position this summer.
“Liverpool are currently focusing on three concrete options in their search for a new number 9: Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak, and Victor Osimhen,” Plettenberg wrote on X.
“Liverpool have conducted thorough checks and gathered information on all of them. Ekitike, for example, is very high on the list. The French striker knows that if he moves to Liverpool, he will need to be patient because the club must sell players first.”
News about Isak and Liverpool have been making the rounds lately. The Sweden international is considered Liverpool’s main No. 9 target.
But his hefty price tag and the fact that Newcastle are unwilling to sell him are thought to be a significant hindrance on Liverpool’s path.
Still, a recent update on the transfer revealed that Isak himself is keen on leaving Newcastle, and Liverpool is said to be an ideal destination for him.
Meanwhile, Ekitike has been linked with a potential move to Liverpool since the summer window opened.
The French striker had a strong season at Eintracht Frankfurt, which has led to interest from several top European clubs, including Liverpool.
Osimhen’s name has been randomly linked with a possible move to Liverpool, with the Nigerian expected to leave Napoli this summer amid interest from Saudi Arabian clubs.
