Report: EFL club want to break transfer record to sign Nottingham Forest player unfancied by…

Nottingham Forest will be looking to offload some players before the transfer window closes in September, with Nuno Espirito Santo looking to free up some space in his squad.

Anthony Elanga has been linked with Newcastle this summer. However, the hope will be that the players who leave are the ones deemed surplus and not the star performers.

Jota Silva is linked with Sporting CP and he could be on his way out of the City Ground this summer, with Ramon Sosa another forward on the radar of other clubs.

There will be a clutch of players who have returned from loan spells too that won’t be required under Espirito Santo and interest in some of those looks to be heating up.

Wrexham ready to smash transfer budget for Lewis O’Brien

According to Alan Nixon from The Sun, Wrexham are preparing a bid of £5 million to sign Lewis O’Brien from Forest during the summer transfer window.

As things stand, the highest fee Wrexham have paid for a player is the £2 million that they paid Reading for Sam Smith.

O’Brien made 14 Premier League appearances for Forest during the 2022/23 campaign following a £10 million move from Huddersfield.

Injury and illness saw him lose his place, however, and he was left out of the reckoning when it came to resubmitting the 25-man squad for the second half of the campaign.

Forest want £8 million for O’Brien this summer and now it remains to be seen whether Wrexham are successful in their attempts to land him.

Forest will need to cut their losses on O’Brien

The move to Forest should have been a dream for O’Brien but ultimately it turned into a nightmare for him instead.

He’s spent time on loan with D.C. United, LAFC, Middlesbrough and Swansea since being dumped from the Forest squad and a permanent exit will surely be next.

O’Brien has enjoyed some positive appearances on loan and it’s fair to say that if he signed for Wrexham this summer, he’d have to be viewed as a major coup.

Forest might have to drop their asking price for him, however, but with the Reds paying £10 million for his signature, the hope will be that the club doesn’t lose too much on the PSR spreadsheet by cutting their losses.
