'Just an appreciation': Fabrizio Romano talks down links between 'untouchable' Newcastle United …

Arsenal have been casting their eyes towards Newcastle United for a while now, looking to take our stars to help them bridge that gap between second place and the Premier League title.

For a long time, Newcastle fans had to endure endless stories about Arsenal's divine right to sign Alexander Isak, given that he's the closest thing the Premier League has to Thierry Henry these days.

Little Newcastle, the great pretenders, were practically ordered to stand aside and let Arsenal take Isak away by the mainstream media.

Thankfully, the truth is that Newcastle are no longer that little stepping stone club and is once again a club that players actually want to play for, and as such, there was no way Isak was going to be allowed to join Arsenal.

Anthony Gordon is being monitored by Arsenal

Arsenal have an interest in Anthony Gordon

Eventually, it seemed as though Arsenal had come to terms with that, but they weren't done coveting Newcastle's players as their attention soon turned towards England winger Anthony Gordon.

Arsenal are keen to add depth to their forward options, and while they are now in talks with Crystal Palace over a move for Eberechi Eze, Gordon's name has been mentioned several times. However, Fabrizio Romano has now told Give Me Sport that he doesn't believe there will be any movement on that front.

“Arsenal interest is true, he is one of the players they like, and they discussed internally.

“But what I understand, it’s not that Arsenal have opened any negotiations with the Newcastle or with his agents.

“It's just an appreciation for the player, but for the winger at Arsenal, I think we have to be bit patient before we understand who is the player they really want to sign.”

Newcastle deemed several of their stars to be 'untouchable' this summer

Anthony Gordon is one of several Newcastle players deemed 'untouchable' in this summer's transfer market, along with Isak, Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento.

We'd also like to add Joelinton and Lewis Hall to that list, and Dan Burn, while we're at it. In fact, all of our regular starting XI should be deemed untouchable as this summer is all about additions.

Were Arsenal to even try to lure Gordon away, they'd be looking at a starting price of £80 million just to get the ball rolling, and we don't see them doing that.
