Suns Send 4-Word Message to Mark Williams After Draft Day Trade

The Phoenix Suns have already made multiple major moves this offseason and there may be more coming as they continue to retool their roster around Devin Booker.

Phoenix began their offseason by trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and five second-round picks.

They then used the 10th pick in the draft to select Duke center Khaman Maluach and then made multiple moves in the second round to draft Rasheer Fleming and Koby Brea.

Of course, Phoenix also made a major move during the first round of the draft as they sent the 29th overall pick and a 2029 first-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets to acquire center Mark Williams.

On Monday, the Suns sent a four-word message to Williams on social media as they welcomed him to the team after their draft day trade.

“Welcome to the desert, Mark,” the Suns posted on X on Monday.

The Suns had a clear plan entering the offseason as they knew they had to fix their problems in the frontcourt that plagued them throughout the entirety of last season.

They did just that by selecting Maluach and then trading for Williams, though it is a risky decision due to Williams’ injury history.

The 23-year-old center has never played more than 44 games in a season and he was the storyline at the trade deadline last season after he failed a physical after being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, causing the trade to be canceled.

While it is a major risk for the Suns, Williams will be a massive upgrade to their frontcourt as he gives them a reliable inside scorer and defender, which they lacked last season despite trading for Nick Richards ahead of the trade deadline.

Now the Suns will look to upgrade their roster even more with free agency beginning on Monday as they try to turn things around after another disappointing season.
