Joe Ingles is re-signing with the Timberwolves on a one-year deal, but Knicks guard Josh Hart had jokes.
Veteran forward Joe Ingles is set to return for a second season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but not everyone in the NBA is ready to celebrate the news — especially New York Knicks swingman Josh Hart, who responded to the signing with a trademark dose of sarcasm.
According to Shams Charania, Ingles intends to sign a one-year, $3.6 million deal with Minnesota. The 36-year-old Australian played just 19 games last season, making a single start and averaging only 6.0 minutes per game.
Though a non-factor in the Timberwolves’ playoff run, he’s expected to serve more as a locker-room veteran and mentor than a rotation piece.
Hart, never one to miss a chance to stir the pot online, reacted on X (formerly Twitter) shortly after the news broke:
“Man someone tell him to go head and retire already.”
While the comment may come off as harsh, it’s widely seen as tongue-in-cheek, given Hart’s reputation for trolling and Ingles' good-natured persona.
A Bit of NBA History Between Them
Though the two never shared the court, Hart and Ingles were once connected through a 2022 three-team trade that temporarily made them both Portland Trail Blazers. Ingles, however, was injured at the time and never suited up, while Hart moved on to New York in 2023.
Despite that, there’s no bad blood — just a bit of veteran-to-veteran ribbing, as Ingles gears up for his 12th NBA season and Hart remains one of the league’s most active personalities on social media.
