It has been nearly 30 years since the Dallas Cowboys last won a Super Bowl. That drought seems unlikely to end this season based on preseason expectations.
Win totals for the 2025 season have been set, and according to FanDuel, the Cowboys over-under for wins is set at 7.5. Per Marcus Mosher of Locked on Cowboys, that is the lowest win total for Dallas since 2003, when the over-under was also 7.5.
The last time the Cowboys had a lower projected win total was in 2002 when it was set at 6, according to Mosher.
The Cowboys are also not expected to make the playoffs in 2025, according to preseason expectations. Dallas making the playoffs pays out at +186, nearly 2-to-1 odds.
The likelihood of winning the Super Bowl is understandably a very long shot. The Cowboys have the 19th-best odds to win the Super Bowl, right behind the Arizona Cardinals, who have had three consecutive losing seasons. Dallas winning the Super Bowl pays out at 47-1.
It’s somewhat understandable that not much is expected from the Cowboys in 2025 after they finished with a 7-10 record last season. However, there is also reason for optimism that this year could be better.
Dak Prescott is back healthy and Dallas has some weapons around him, most notably CeeDee Lamb. The Cowboys also traded for George Pickens this offseason to give Prescott another weapon.
If Dallas can get Micah Parsons locked up to a long-term deal, perhaps expectations could go up and the Cowboys could end up being a surprise contender this fall. But as of now, expectations are low -- the lowest they’ve been in more than two decades.
