After blockbuster trade, Steelers all in on keeping star pass rusher (report)

The Pittsburgh Steelers have had a busy offseason that continued on Monday when they acquired star cornerback Jalen Ramsey in a blockbuster trade with the Miami Dolphins.

Now their focus shifts to star pass rusher T.J. Watt, who they intent to keep on their roster and extend his contract, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported on Monday.

Watt, who did not attend voluntary OTAs, is in the final year of his contract and is set to make $21.05 million.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that several NFL teams have been debating whether they can trade for the 30-year-old, but the Steelers have shown no willingness to move Watt.

Browns defensive end Myles Garrett essentially reset the pass rusher market when he signed a four-year extension with Cleveland in March that averages $40 million per season and includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money.

It’s unclear what kind of extension Watt is looking for.

Watt has spent his entire eight-year career in Pittsburgh. During that time, he has 108 sacks, 33 forced fumbles, 225 quarterback hits and 126 tackles for loss.
