The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly agreeing to a two-year $12 million contract with D’Angelo Russell, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer.
Russell, a one-time all-star, spent last season with the Los Angeles Lakers Brooklyn Nets, where he averaged 12.6 points, 5.1 assists and 2.8 rebounds.
Russell will provide the Mavs with a guard to help run the offense in Kyrie Irving’s absence, but he is coming off a career-worst year from the field, shooting 39% overall and 31% from the 3-point line.
Irving will miss the beginning of the upcoming season while recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee and is targeting a January return, according to reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Without Irving, Russell will join a backcourt with Klay Thompson, Max Christie, Spencer Dinwiddie, Dante Exum and Jaden Hardy.
