Man United consider move for England striker

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim will be under pressure to improve his side when the new season starts.

The Portuguese only took charge of the Red Devils in November last year, but his side showed little improvement once he arrived in Manchester and the Red Devils ultimately finished 15th in the Premier League table.

Their poor showing last term means United will not be in any European competition next season, which could benefit Amorim as it will allow him to focus solely on domestic competitions.

Matheus Cunha has already arrived to bolster Amorim’s squad ahead of the new season, but it has now emerged that United are weighing up a shock move for an England international.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes via GiveMeSport, Manchester United are considering an audacious move for Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney.

The report claims that the Manchester giants have identified the ex-Brentford man as a possible solution to their attacking issues.

Both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund struggled in front of goal last term, scoring just seven times in a combined 64 Premier League appearances.

Toney, meanwhile, has been in fine goal scoring form since moving to Saudi Arabia last summer.

The Englishman has netted 30 times in 44 games for his new club, and was recalled to the England squad for the most recent international break although he didn’t feature for Thomas Tuchel’s side.

The 29-year-old is contracted to Al Ahli until the summer of 2028, but the report suggests that Man United could attempt to lure the striker back to England this summer.

United are said to have tabled an offer of £30 million for the ex-Peterborough United man, who currently earns a staggering £415,000-per-week in the Middle East.
