Brentford director of football Phil Giles has sent a transfer warning to Manchester United amid their ongoing pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo.
The Red Devils are determined to bolster their attack ahead of next season.
They have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and talks are underway with the Bees over a potential deal for Mbeumo.
United have so far failed with two bids of £55 million and £62.5 million for the Cameroonian star, and talks are continuing to find an agreement.
Amidst this, Giles has acknowledged the interest from United in Mbeumo, but added that his transfer is not guaranteed during the transfer window.
The 49-year-old said that it is not a given that the winger will depart and he would be happy to stay next season. The Bees will only sell him for the right price.
He told Sky Sports: “There is significant interest in Bryan. His current preference has been well publicised.”
“He had an unbelievable season, and we expected interest in him. From what I understand, he is also, if needs be, happy to stay at Brentford next year as well.
“We’ve spoken to Bryan and his representatives. It’s not a given that he’s going to depart this summer.
“If we get the right offer, there is the potential for a deal to be done, but there is only so much we can say now on that.”
Mbeumo had a superb 2024/25 campaign with the Bees. He registered an impressive tally of 20 goals and eight assists from 38 Premier League appearances.
The former Troyes man played a big part in the club’s 10th-place league finish, and the Bees are now keen to secure a premium price for his summer transfer.
United have a free run at purchasing him as Mbeumo has made it clear that he wants to move to Old Trafford. He won’t entertain offers from elsewhere.
Still, the club have a task on their hands, considering the Bees are yet to be convinced. They may be looking for at least £70m to part ways with the 25-year-old.
United need to sort out an agreement as soon as possible. They can’t afford to drag negotiations into late July, which could urge the Bees to increase their valuation.
The Red Devils faced a similar situation with Ajax for Antony in 2022. Mbeumo is a much better winger than the Brazilian, but United should avoid spending over the odds.
